CityPups

Helping people living in cities find the perfect dog to adopt.

DESIGN SPRINT
VISUAL & BRAND DESIGNER | UX/UI

City dwellers’ unique needs.

Through research and interviews, CityPups has discovered that people living in cities struggle to find the right dog to adopt due to their unique needs.

CityPups sees an opportunity to help city-dwellers find the perfect dog to adopts based on their unique needs.

Problem

  • Living Spaces

  • Schedule & Transportations

  • Outdoor Space

  • & other city-specific criteria

Goals

  1. Increase adoption rates.

  2. Happier owners.

  3. Better “forever” homes for dogs.

Design Constraints

CityPups aggregates adoption dogs from local organizations and shelters, so once a user decides to adopt, they are sent to a third-party contact to start the process.

Focus on helping users find the right dog to adopt.

Persona

Screen Shot 2021-07-10 at 1.26.23 PM.png

27 years old | New York City, NY

Ellie

Ellie lives alone in a studio apartment and she finally feels “ready” for the responsibility, and companionship of a dog. She follows some adoption agencies on Instagram, and even “saves” some dogs she wants to adopt;.

Frustrations:
Ellie hasn’t taken action because she doesn’t feel 100% confident that a dog will be a good fit for her AND the dog. Most adoptions sites focus on making a connection between people and dogs. This is great for browsing, but it often leads to her falling in love with a dog that needs more space, attention, or activity than she can provide. Descriptions of dogs on sites are too general - for example, it may say “this dog doesn’t require a lot of space” - but how small is too small?

Goals:
Ellie wants to find a dog to adopt. She wants to feel confident that they will be a great fit for each other - both in emotional connection and practical factors related to her lifestyle.

Research | User Interviews

Photos are definitely the first thing I notice or make a connection with.”
— Maria
I look at the basic info - size, age, etc. Photos and ‘bios’ are so great to get an idea of the dog’s personality.
— Dan
I want to know how comfortable and trained the dog is when traveling or moving around the city.
— Lindsey
I try to find breeds that are generally less hyper, but it all really depends on the personality of the dog.

Conclusion

Through research and interviews, CityPups has discovered that people living in cities struggle to find the right dog to adopt due to their unique needs. The goal of this project was to help city-dwellers find the perfect dog to adopt based on their unique needs — living spaces, schedule & transportation, outdoor space, and other city-specific criteria. CityPups is looking to increase adoption rates in cities, have happier owners/users and have better '“forever” homes for dogs.

CityPups ability to filter available dogs within specific parameters — training level, compatibility with other dogs/cats/people, special needs, and activity level; allows for users to search for dogs that fit their requirements. One difficulty was finding what the various city-dweller requirements are, each individual had specific needs, some overlapping some not. This lead to the development of creating an ample amount of specific and unique filters that the user can use to meet their needs.
